When to visit

Whether the awakening of spring, summer sun, autumn leaves or winter landscape - the island of Rügen is enchanting at any time of the year!

Spring - flowering meadows & yellow rapeseed fields

When the days get longer and the air gets milder, this is the start of the most beautiful season on Germany's largest island for many Rügen connoisseurs. The meadows of the Zickersche Berge turn into a colourful sea of wildflowers. Rapeseed fields light up Rügen with flashes of bright yellow. The fresh green of the trees makes the island's many picturesque avenues shimmer. Spring on Rügen is the best season for nature lovers.

Summer - swimming pleasures & sunscreen

The summer months are the best times to swim on Rügen. The Baltic Sea is warm - over 20 degrees, but the air never gets oppressively hot as there is always a pleasant, refreshing sea breeze. Sun worshippers enjoy the beaches and in the seaside resorts, holiday businesses are in full swing. Long, warm summer evenings provide a beautiful end to eventful days.

Autumn - colourful foliage & mild temperatures

While it is slowly getting colder in the rest of the country and the first snowfalls begin, the temperature on Rügen is usually still quite mild. Rügen owes its relatively warm autumn to the still warm Baltic Sea. The many deciduous trees on the island fill the landscape with a sea of colour. Autumn is an ideal time to explore the Mönchgut peninsula and the whole of Rügen on foot. You can also enjoy long walks along the beach and see hardly any other people

Winter - snow on sand

The Zickersche Berge are often called the 'Zickersche Alps'. Although they cannot be compared with the real Alps, when it snows, the hills just behind the houses of Gager still look like a picture-book winter landscape. However, it is not for nothing that the island of Rügen is regarded as the sunniest corner of Germany. Even in winter the sun often shines on Mönchgut, while the weather in the interior is gloomy. The winter months are also ideal for enjoying the large sauna area of mönchgut living & spa in peace and quiet.
